CCP Media Kept Silent on Human Rights Day

Dec. 10, is International Human Rights Day, which has seen
many rights defending activities taking place in China.

Tens of thousands of petitioners visited Beijing to defend

Some of them went to the UN office;

Some petitioned the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
media mouthpiece CCTV headquarters;

Some went to the State Bureau for Letters and Calls;

Others spread flyers at Tiananmen Square
or on buses.

As usual, all protesters were subject to police suppression
by the CCP.

Although the CCP media all kept silent on Human Rights Day,
Chinese netizens had hot discussions on weibo.

Liu Xiaoyuan, a rights lawyer, wrote an introduction of
the origin of Human Rights Day.

He also called for more public attention to human rights
events on the day.

His messages has been forwarded on by many people.

A BBC Chinese report said, some Chinese netizens
criticized the CCP media for being silent on the topic.

Some wrote, “I remember there was an international Guide
Dog Day in April and the CCP media reported on it;

In comparison, when Human Rights Day comes,
our media kept completely silent;

Clearly some people think that humans and dogs need
to be treated differently."

Ma Ying-Jeou Attended a Human Rights Day Event.

On the other side of the strait, the Taiwan government held
a commemorating event on Human Rights Day.

President Ma Ying-jeou attended and publicly apologized to
victims and their families of the 1950’s White Terror era.

Ma Ying-jeou said “Power results in corruption;
absolute power leads to absolute corruption."

Ma also said, “We should face our history in
a matter-of-fact prospect;

Only comprehensive self-criticism wins people’s trust;

There is no end in seeking democracy and human rights."

Chinese Civil Rights Website Releases Updated List of Some
of China’s Prisoners of Conscience

On Human Rights Day, an NGO website released an updated
list of China’s prisoners of conscience.

The list was completed by Civil Rights and Livelihood Watch
Studio, an unofficial agency based in Hubei Province.

There are 92 prisoners of conscience on the list.

According to the agency’s website (msguancha.com), all listed
prisoners were convicted for their speech after the CCP 18th
National Congress in Nov. 2012. Most are democrats, rights
activists, lawyers, NGO workers, journalists or intellectuals.

The online report said, the list only includes;

Activists who had been in criminal detention, arrested,
sentenced, abducted or seriously persecuted.
