CCP Minister of Education Asked to Step Down
for Controversial Talk

Recently the CCP has tightened control of college education.

Earlier, the party repudiated how criticism of CCP had become
fashionable in college classes. Later, state documents were issued
to ask for strengthening of college ideology work.

Recently, the comments made by the party’s Minister of Education
have triggered a backlash.

Recently, the CCP General Office and the State Council co-issued
a document “Opinions Regarding Further Strengthening and
Improving Ideology in College Education".

It emphasized that colleges are the front line
of the party’s ideology work.

Jan 29, Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education stated in a symposium
held by the Ministry that ideology in college education
should be strengthened, that management of textbooks
and lectures should be stressed so that books that promote
western values can never find room in China’s colleges.

Yuan also required that no comments that “throw mud"
on socialism are allowed in college classes.

No comments against the constitution and laws are allowed either.

Teachers aren’t allowed to complain in classes.

Sun Wenguang, retired professor from Shangdong University:
“Colleges should break from these interventions.

Especially, colleges should resist against any evil power,
and evil ideology and any evil governance."

Professor Sun also pointed out that the CCP grants secretaries
of college party committees more power than college principals.

It lists Marxism and Maoism as college students’ required courses.

It set up CCP brunches in college classes.

During job-hunting, non-party members are discriminated against.

Through all means, the CCP systematically indoctrinates
its own ideology and maintains its governance.

Professor Sun stated that colleges are places for academics,
and both students and teachers should have free space
to discuss academics and search for the truths.

It’s beyond the territory of any parties.

This is how it works in western countries.

Professor Sun:"The insistence on one-party dictatorship and
the insistence on CCP leadership in colleges are actually
blocking the world trend."

Professor Sun said that the rigid speeches of Yuan Guiren
surpass the moral bottom line and he should step down
from his position.

Some people also drafted an appeal on the internet and
asked Yuan Guiren to step down. In the appeal, it says:
“Yuan didn’t say a word when teachers or CCP officials raped
female students; he didn’t say a word when children couldn’t
afford tuition; he didn’t say a word when the exam-oriented
education system made students suffer;
he didn’t say a word when school buildings collapsed;
he didn’t say a word when schools were classified into
different levels. Now when students come to accept some
advanced ideology, he comes out and wants to forbid
western values in college classes.

He is blatantly rejecting western civilization.

Let’s unite together and call for an end to his term of office. “

Scholar Pan Ganping from Zhejiang, Chen Jijian from Fujian
and others signed the appeal.

A college professor who didn’t want to disclose his name
told NTD that Yuan Guiren worked on the study of
Marxist Philosophy. He used to agree with humanitarianism,
humanity and even human rights.

Now the way he makes his stand might be to accommodate
CCP game rules.

This anonymous professor said that China’s current educational
situation can’t be changed even if Yuan Guiren steps down.

Yuan’s lines of argument don’t work in college education though.

The anonymous professor: “Think about it,
if all western values are rejected, what’s left?

The only thing left would be brainwashing education.

If you keep all the advanced things out of the door,
there is nothing valuable left because
we don’t have our own original things."

This professor also stated that now economy has been globalized,
the world’s market, culture and technologies are highly interacted.

If we follow Yuan Guiren’s words, college teachers really
don’t know how to teach anymore.

The students graduated from colleges would be farther away
from the main stream of the world’s civilization.

Shen Kui, Vice President of Peking University Law School,
also wrote an article titled “Three Questions to Yuan Guiren".

The article says that “Communism" is a ghost roaming around
in Europe and floated to China across the seas, and
that’s how the Chinese Communist Party came to birth.

The constitution requires the insistence on
“Marxism, Internationalism and Communism",
which all originated from the west.

Professor Shen asked Yuan Guiren to give a dividing line
between “Chinese values" and “western values".

Zhang Lifan, independent scholar in Bejing, told Voice of America
that this is just the beginning of political activities in colleges.

However, students nowadays are different from those in the past.

Zhang Lifan also cited words from Sun Liping,
Professor from Tsinghua University,
that CCP officials only oppose western countries verbally.

In actuality, these officials try all means to move their children,
concubines and money to western countries.

Those officials amount to a great number.
