Micro-Blog Reveals Premeditated Explosion

A suicide bomber in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province, China,
has been identified as Qian Mingqi, a petitioner whose
home was demolished. Before the bombing,
he blogged how Fuzhou officials demolished his home
and stole his awarded compensation. He petitioned for
10 years without results. He said he wanted to be
“Dong Cunrui” instead of Qian Mingqi, which foretold
the tragic bombing. Dong Cunrui was a Party hero who
sacrificed his life while blowing up a pillbox in 1948.

According to the Jiangxi Public Security Bureau,
on May 26, 52-year-old serial bomber, Qian Mingqi,
died in the explosion. He was a resident of
Linchuan District, Fuzhou City, in Jiangxi Province.

Between April 18 and May 8, Qian posted numerous
blogs at www.ifeng.com. On May 3, he revealed how
Xi Dongsen, a governor in Linchuan District, forcibly
demolished Qian’s new home to make way for the
Beijing-Fuzhou Expressway, and how Xi took $1.54
million from Qian’s compensation and distributed
the money as bonuses, causing Qian to lose $308,000.
Qian appealed for many years, without success.

On May 8, Qian wrote on his microblog that he was
forced to do things like Dong Cunrui would have
done, instead of how Qian Yunhui or Xu Wu
would have done. He said that he wanted to donate
his organs, if he died a natural death. This also
foretold his decision to fight injustice with his life.

On the evening before the bombing, he wrote his last
micro-blog in support the vendor, Xia Junfeng, who
killed city managers in Shenyang, Northeast China.
He said: “Only actions can solve the problem! Only
by fighting can we obtain freedom!” Also, according
to Southern Metropolis Daily’s reporter, Wang Xing,
Qian had sent him letters about his personal miseries
and information on some “explosive news” in Fuzhou.

After Qian’s motives for the bombing were made
clear, people expressed anger and concerns at the
current state of society, which “forces people to rebel.”

Mr. Lan, (a resident in Jiangxi): “This incident shows
that our society has lost its flexibility and is strained
to its breaking point. Frankly speaking, people
can no longer tolerate the current income disparity
and hidden issues are finally coming to the surface.”

He Jiawen, (a legal worker in Hunan Province):
“It’s the nation’s political system that blocks the
path of peaceful negotiations. There is an old saying
in China: ‘Officials force people to rebel,’ which is the
result of an authoritarian society. Thus, good people
turn into rioters, which is a danger to the country.”

Mr. Wang, from Hubei Province, was beaten into
disability by police when he worked in Guangdong
Province. He petitioned for many years but failed.
Feeling desperate, he planned to retaliate by killing
the local officials’ families. Fortunately, he decided
not to go ahead with his plans.

Mr. Wang (a petitioner from Hubei): “Every time I
appeal to the related government departments, they
shift responsibility to each other, and I end up getting
nowhere. Since the authorities don’t take us seriously,
we civilians have no choice now. People have no hope
in the regime, thus they are driven to take extreme
measures. Who can guarantee us justice?”

Ai Xiaoming, a retired professor from Zhongshan
University, wrote online that Qian used his life
to sound an alarm for society. She said that today’s
“mushroom cloud” (the bombing) is an urgent signal
to remind us that a society which forbids citizens from
criticizing officials, will experience more tragedies!
