These merry men and women in Hong Kong are being put through their paces to find who is fit to don the red suit and hat.

They’re competing for a spot in Sweden’s 2011 Santa Claus Winter Games.

And to prove their proficiency the eight contestants had to glide on sleds, deliver gifts – in slightly unconventional ways – and eat without soiling their pristine beards.

2009 world champion, Jim Chan, has been playing the role of Santa for 18 years.

Even though Hong Kong is no place for reindeers, these Santas had to also demonstrate their lassoing skills.

And full-time magician Mario Wong thinks it’s great fun.

“You never know if you would win or lose, it all depends on the judge. The most important thing is to have fun. Today I’m here not to win, but to have fun. If people can see, ‘oh, he’s having fun!’ then it’s good enough."

Wong was crowned the winner and will represent Hong Kong in Sweden from November 17th to 19th.
