U.S. Aircraft Fly in China’s Claimed Airspace Without Asking

On Tuesday, two U.S. B-52 bombers flew through China’s
newly designated air defense identification zone over
the East China Sea without notifying Beijing.

In light of the clear warning from the U.S., Chinese Defense
Ministry spokesman said on the 27th that the military monitored
the U.S. planes and instantly recognized them as U.S. aircraft.

Besides this, there has been no other reaction from China.

U.S. officials say two unarmed U.S. B-52 bombers took off
from the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, Japan, and flew
through China’s newly designated “Air Defense Identification
Zone" on Nov. 26 at 7pm EST.
They say that the event was a long-planned military exercise
and did not inform the CCP.

Beijing politics watcher Hua Po says
the two U.S. B-52 planes’ flight through China’s
new aerial zone is a warning.

Hua Po, Beijing politics watcher: “Obviously, it’s a signal from
the U.S. to warn China (the CCP) not to take any aggressive
actions, in case of accidental discharge."

On Nov. 23, the CCP unilaterally declared the creation of an
air defense identification zone in the East China Sea, and
required aircraft entering the area to notify Chinese authorities,
or China may adopt a “emergency defensive measures".
The airspace included the Diaoyu Islands controlled by Japan,
South Korea’s Dokdo or Takeshima islands, as well as
the airspace close to the Taiwan Strait and Okinawa.

On Tuesday, U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki
said there are 70,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan
and South Korea.

She also stressed that China should not set up the Air Defense
Identification Zone and the U.S. would not comply
with the rules for the zone laid out by the CCP.

Xia Ming, political science professor from the City University
of New York, says it would amount to the U.S. handing over
its own strategic space if it complied with the rules of the
CCP’s identification zone.

Xia Ming, political science professor at City University of
New York: “The territory remains disputed, but the CCP wants
to solve it unilaterally and raised its claim on the area as it’s
air defense warning area.
The Air Defense Identification Zone is more like a direct
challenge to South Korea and Japan.
Since Korea and Japan’s ally is the U.S,
it’s also a direct challenge to the U.S.
So the U.S. sent two B-52 bombers to show that
they will not comply with such demands at all.”

So far, the CCP has not protested to against the U.S action.

Hua Po: “CCP officials can’t hype up this issue.

The CCP won’t fight with the U.S. and Japan
because the Diaoyu Islands in East sea is its core interest.
So they’ll adopt a low-key response
to the passthrough of the two U.S. B-52s.”

Xia Ming: “Now we can see U.S. hit the CCP’s bottom line.

First will they protest the U.S. government? And if so,
to what extent? Does it dare send a warning letter to show
whether they’re determined to push forward on the issue?”

According to media reports, the U.S. aircraft carrier battle
group and Japan’s naval fleet arrived in the East China Sea
to carry out exercises on Nov. 27.

On Nov. 26, the CCP’s first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning,
lead its battle group from the North China Sea to the South
via the East China Sea to do some kind of military exercise.

On the 18th, three Chinese navy fleets left the west Pacific
Ocean to hold an Ocean drill codenamed “Mobile No. 5″.

On Nov. 13, while the U.S., South Korea and Japan held
joint military exercises near China’s Yellow Sea, the North Sea
Fleet and the East Sea Fleet of Chinese Navy also launched
large-scale drills in the Yellow Sea with hundreds of warships
and more than 30 warplanes.

What is the intentions of the U.S. and China’s frequent
military exercises?

President of the Macau International Military Institute Huang
Dong said to Hong Kong media that the CCP’s exercises are
certainly against the U.S. military.

He says such large-scale exercises must have an imaginary
enemy, and the U.S. aircraft carriers were no doubt the
protagonist.

Xia Ming says that the CCP wants to expand its strength and
sphere especially in the western Pacific Ocean in recent years.
He says Japan and U.S. military exercises are done to make
the CCP realize that the United States and Japan have
greater aircraft carrier battle group watching beside it.

Xia: “the United States is also reluctant to let China [the CCP]
expand both in the air and at sea .
This is a psychological battle from US and Japan to against
China to show their strength.”

Xia said what the U.S. is doing is to show it’s
determination to Asian allies.
It shows that U.S. not only wants to protect the interests of it’s
allies, but also protect U.S. interests in the Western Pacific.
