Hundreds of Chinese Lawyers Called for Implementation of
International Covenant

Over 100 human rights lawyers jointly signed a request to
implement The International Covenant on Civil and Political
Rights on December 31 which was issued to the National
People ‘s Congress.

The organizer explained that China signed the International
Covenant 15 years ago, but never approved implementation
in China.

They believe that the Covenant concerns the welfare of every
Chinese citizen.
Chinese citizens are entitled to the basic human rights
like everyone else in the world.

In 2013, there were many kinds of human rights violation
cases in China, such as illegal detention of citizens calling
for property declaration, violence against defending attorneys,
with people wrongfully sentenced for online criticism.

The appeal states that as both civil rights and political rights
have been depressed, and the constitutional law is distorted,
every citizen should uphold their conscience and have courage
to fulfill their civic responsibilities.
They should address their strongest condemnation against
anti- constitutional and anti- rule of law.

South Street Movement Wants to End One-Party Dictatorship

AFP reported on December 30 about the attention grabbing
Southern Street Movement in Guangdong province.

Members of the movement held banners urging an end to
China’s “dictatorship", scorning the regime as a “rogue" and
demanded that leaders disclose their assets.

These are all dangerous calls under Communist Party rule,
added the AFP.

Southern Street Movement activist Xie Wenfei told AFP, “If
you see injustice and remain silent, you have sided with evil."

It is reported that he raised a sign calling for an end to “one-
party dictatorship" in the provincial capital Guangzhou in
September, earning himself a month in detention.

He expressed his desire to firstly tell his like-minded friends
to break through their fear, and secondly to tell the Chinese
Communist Party that the way they are doing things cannot last.

“They have lost their legitimacy in the eyes of the people and
the law", quoted the AFP.

Activist Wang Aizhong told AFP that they have not specified
their demands, but all the demands target one goal. That is to
end the one-party autocracy in China.

award ceremony, the anniversary of the death of Liu Binyan.

Liu Binyan was a well-known Chinese writer and reporter.
He earned his recognition with his writings of exposing
the Communist regime’s issues, and was also very suppressed
by the Communist regime.

opposed the regime and was forced into exile until his death.
