China Transplant Congress Chairman Investigated by WOIPFG

China’s Transplant Congress 2014 has been quietly held
in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The meeting date and venue was changed, and
no English version of the event was available on its official website.
Observers notice that the chairman of the congress
was Zheng Shusen,
who is also the director of Anti-Cult Association
in Zhejiang Province.
The two titles are completely different,
what is the secret inside?
Let’s take a look.

China’s 2014 Transplant Congress ended on Oct. 31.
The meeting seemed very low-profile.
Apart from searching the agenda on its official website,
news about the congress can scarcely be found.

Meanwhile, chairman of the congress Zheng Shusen
was exposed in his identity as a director
of the Anti-Cult Association in Zhejiang.

The two titles seem unconnected, but there is link.

The Anti-Cult Association in China was launched in 2000 after
the Chinese Communist Party started its persecution of Falun Gong.
Soon, different levels of work units in China, and even middle
and primary schools established Anti-Cult Association branches.
The associations, normally led by some scholars or experts,
aimed to suppress Falun Gong through out the country.

Zheng Shusen is a professor in surgery at Zhejiang University.

After he assumed position of director of Anti-Cult Association,
the number of liver transplants increased sharply.
Zheng became well-known for conducting liver transplants.

According to the introduction to
The First Affiliated Hospital Liver Transplant Center
of Zhejiang University,
Zheng has carried out 1,600 cases of liver transplant.
A report dated Jan. 28, 2005 on the website of the liver transplant
center indicated that Zheng performed five cases of
liver transplant in a row in one day.

That year was the most severe period of persecution of Falun Gong.
Transplants in China had also reached a peak in 2005.

Some analysts say that Zheng had two totally different titles,
which aroused observers’ concerns on the sensitive topic
of live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.

That’s likely caused China’s Transplant Congress being held
quietly this year.

Lan Shu, current affairs commentator: “The wider the promotion
is, the more condemnation it would provoke in the world.
So there are two reasons the congress was held quietly.
First, it’s afraid of international society’s loud condemnation.
Second, it’s afraid of more details of live organ harvesting
being exposed.”

The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of
Falun Gong (WOIPFG) has concluded, after investigation,
Zheng Shusen is suspected of involvement
in live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners.

In June, the international transplant conference
was held in London, Zheng was one of the attendees.
When he received the WOIPFG’s investigation notice,
his face immediately turned pale,
then he jumped into a car leaving the venue in panic.

Howard. P. Monsour, Chief of Hepatology in the US:
“It is a crime against humanity; it’s against human rights.
It needs to stop.”

On Sept. 26, WOIPFG issued the first list of hospitals and
doctors in China suspected of being involved in
live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.

Many Chinese doctors attending the London
conference were on the list.

The US Department of Health has reported that waiting time
to get a kidney transplant in the US is about 1,121 days.
For a liver it’s 796 days, and lungs 1,068 days.
Before year 2000, it was a similar waiting time in China.
However, after 2000, China has frequently broken
the medical record for transplant numbers.
FEOSO Organ Transplant Center in Tianjin
said on its website:
waiting for kidney transplant is one week to one month.

According to statistics, since the CCP started persecuting
Falun Gong in 1999, organ transplants quickly increased,
and from 2003 to 2006, the trend of organ transplants
in China was sharply upward.
Strangely, a plentiful supply of organs awaited
patients at that time.
So, a wave of overseas patients came to China
for organ transplant.
However, the government including Zheng Shusen,
Huan Jiefu, the experts in transplant,
couldn’t give explanations for the source of the organs.

Ruchi Sharme, “I mean of course it is important to disseminate
this information.
It’s about an issue that only when people are aware of something,
can they do something to stop it.
So I think it’s always worthwhile
to spread awareness.”

Currently, the international community increasingly condemns
the CCP’s live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.
In December 2013, the European parliament passed a resolution
calling for the end of forced organ harvesting from
prisoners of conscience in China,
including from religious and ethnic minority groups.

On July 30, the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs
endorsed a House Resolution H. Res. 281.
It calls on China to end forced organ harvesting immediately.

A Canadian parliament hearing suggests that a multi-pronged
approach, including legislation and public awareness,
would be necessary to stop the CCP crime of live organ harvesting.
