“China Survival Guide," the Number One iPhone App

What to eat? What not to eat? This is always a topic of
concern for the populace of mainland China. Not long ago,
the free to download app “China Survival Guide" quickly
became popular and rushed to the top of the list on Apple’s
App Store. This application software is updated constantly
and broadcasts information on toxic food scandals to the
whole country. One netizen wrote that one could only think
of creating such software in a country like China.
Others wrote that they hope China can take this opportunity
to eradicate the root of long standing issues on food security.

The “China Survival Guide" was first made available online
on May 24th,
and had been downloaded over 200 thousand times
within three days of its release.
It quickly became the top free App in Apple’s App store.

The “Survival Guide" organizes information on the toxic
food scandals in clear and simple terms, posts them to a list, and provides it to users.
The service is constantly updated and sends the information
to the whole country in a timely manner.

Since 2008, several infants have died from
the toxic “Sanlu" brand milk powder.
The issue of food safety has become the topic of
most concern among China’s populace.
Because of this, people want to know: What’s safe to eat?
What’s unsafe to eat?
It is in this context that the “China Survival Guide" has
drawn widespread attention among people in the mainland.

Mainland Chemical Engineer Mr. Deng: “Now,
the food products which are closely related to our daily life,
such as rice and bean sprouts are quite cheap.
In other words, they are toxic.
This includes potatoes, spices, or anything.
It’s all toxic; I feel it’s so bad. ”

Mainland biologist, Liu Yuandong, said that this is how China’s
current environment is. This problem cannot be solved.

Liu Yuandong: “The situation for private enterprises
is becoming increasingly difficult
because of a series of failed economic policies,
such as the government taxation and other fees.
It’s possible that a lot of people may do some illegal things
under such harsh conditions."

In recent years, fake and poisonous food proliferates in China.

Things such as [meats injected with] clenbuterol, salted red
duck hearts, poisoned dumplings and fake tofu.
Some foods contain hormones, colorings, preservatives,
formaldehyde, Sudan dyes, bleaches, brighteners, industrial salt, etc.
Many Chinese people become the victims of these fake and
poisonous foods which are carcinogenic, and can lead to disability and death.

Liu Yuandong introduced that, after people eat those foods with additives,
they won’t feel the hazard within a short period of time.
But it will lead to chronic diseases such as cancer and
cardiovascular disease.

Liu Yuandong: “The government supervision and
the public service are missing.
Moreover, manufacturers even conspire with the
regulatory authorities.
The regulatory authorities will keep one eye open and
the other closed in order to gain benefits.
It even reaches the extent that some regulatory departments
are fond of these illegal acts.
Because if you break the laws, they can gain benefits
from you. These illegal traders are more likely to survive."

Sichuan food safety and environmental activist, Chen Yunfei:
“This is not a simple technical problem, but a political issue.
All of these Technical Supervision, Industry and Commerce
Bureaus, are useless."

The root of the lack of moral consciousness in China,
Chen Yunfei believes, is the problem of the regime.

Former Dean of “Guangdong South China University,
Department of Light Industry and Food", Gao Dawei said that
the “materialist atheism" esteemed by the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) denies the universal principle that good and evil meet with due returns.
What’s created is an entire society that is materialistic,
worships money, and peoples thinking is out of control.
He said that, the only solution for Chinese people is to
“disintegrate CCP" this “drug source" in order to rebuild the people’s morality.
