China Central TV Airs “Big V” Interview,
Netizens Questioned Its Validity

On Sept. 15, Xue Manzi, online celebrity Big V
(verified internet user), and famous investor faced administrative detention for “hiring a prostitute”.
Now Xue is under criminal detention.

On Sept. 15, China’s Central Television showed
a video recording about Big V.
It claimed that Xue has confessed to the police that he felt like
an Emperor being a Big V. It provoked outsiders’ questions.

Wang Fu, co-founder of a Beijing law firm said
if the video was recorded by a reporter,
why didn’t the reporter turn up in
the video asking Big V questions?
If the video was recorded by police, it should belong to
state secrets. Who has authorized it to be broadcasted?
If the police didn’t tell Xue that they made a video
recording to be broadcast, how will Xue feel?”

Shanghai citizens questioned why the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) only criticized Xu’s online expression but didn’t
mention the reason of his detention for hiring prostitute?
One mocked: “I am looking forward to listening to
his story about hiring a prostitute.
It seems that these days holding him in the
detention center is useless, he didn’t confess to a major crime, just said some rubbish!”
Wu Bihu, Professor of Peking University said: “The CCP,
one-party dictatorship, originally controls everything.
Big V has intervened, so the CCP must accuse him
of hiring a prostitute.”

A Singapore Chinese said: “Big V Emperor
monitored government officials.
He called on the public to make donations
to help poor families.
He took government’s credibility and authority,
he monitored officials, won’t they hate him?”

Lawyers Formed “Protect Human Rights Legal Service Group”

On Sept. 13, activist lawyers Wang Cheng, Tang Jitian and
Jiang Tianyong formed “Protect Human Rights Legal Service Group”(PHRLSG).
The mission is to provide legal services for citizens
who were detained for exercising their civil rights.

The PHRLSG statement said that since April and May, many
citizens were detained for requesting officials disclose assets.
In August and September, thousands of netizens
were arrested during online rumors crackdowns.
Until recently, Wang Gongquan, investor and supporter
of citizens’ civil rights, was detained.
The legal industry has formed several legal service groups
to help individual cases in the past.
However, there will be many such individual cases,
so to do legal service for individual cases is not enough.
It became necessary to establish the PHRLSG.

The statement said there is enough reason to believe, China
is at a crossroads: either leap forward or step backward.
“Being citizens, we can’t remain silent, we must speak up.”

The statement urges Chinese lawyers to actively
join PHRLSG with free collaboration.

The statement said that those detained citizens
haven’t committed any crimes.
They just carried out their civil rights of freedom
of expression. They must be released immediately.

More than 30 lawyers joined PHRLSG by Sept. 14.

Hu Jian And Petitioners Continue To Protest

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continued to
suppress citizens’ civil rights movements.
Police arrested many people who held placards to
request the disclosure of officials’ assets.
On Sept. 14, Beijing activist Hu Jia held banners
with other petitioners in Beijing.
They continued to request the disclosure of
officials’ assets, and releasing detained activists.
