Has the Trial of Zhou Yongkang Begun Yet?
Right after the sentencing of Bo Xilai, Xi Jinping, president
of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), went to Hebei
to begin his investigation.
While Xi was in Hebei, he asked Hebei Party Secretary, Zhou
Benshun, and other officials, to mutually criticize each other.
Outsiders believe this move shows the trial
of Zhou Yongkang has begun.
During the democratic life conference held by the Hebei
Provincial Party Committee, Xi claimed that the goal
of the conference was to resolve problems.
Xi met with Hebei Party Secretrary Zhou Benshun
and Governor Zhang Qingwei respectively.
He wanted them to take the lead in mutual criticism
In 2003, Zhou Benshun, Zhou Yongkang’s hardcore
supporter, served as secretary general of the Central Politics
and Law Commission.
Earlier this year, he was demoted and sent to Hebei.
On August 1st, Sichuan businessman Hu Bin,
Zhou Yongkang’s confidant, was taken away in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Zhou Yongkang’s corrupt oil gang,
family members and cronies were fully exposed by the media.
Wen Zhao, political commentator:"Forming an anti-Zhou
atmosphere and public opinion is more in line with
the CCP’s practice before any significant move.
The public opinion, once mature, will affect the mentality
of the entire officialdom.
Finally, it becomes such a situation that everyone wants
to push a falling wall.
Thus, mutual exposing will follow and facilitate the last step."
Last year, when Wang Lijun fled to the U.S. Consulate,
rumor had it that Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang plotted
to topple Xi Jinping.
Wen Zhao: “After the downfall of Bo Xilai, the CCP
has to eliminate his allies to avoid his comeback.
Bo’s direction and ideology is an open wound for the CCP,
and has caused a split amongst the princelings.
This open wound will bleed the CCP to death eventually.
Thus, this wound needs prompt treatment, otherwise,
it may become fatal.
Now, it is time to fix Zhou Yongkang."
Currently, there are three routes for the CCP to take
in investigating Zhou Yongkang.
The first route begins with the period that Zhou served
Several dozens of businessmen and officials have been
Li Chuncheng, deputy secretary of Sichuan, was the first
to be arrested.
The second is the oil sector; beginning in August 2013,
quite a few oil executives were arrested.
Official media outlets said that no one in PetroChina is safe.
The third route starts from the Politics and Law Commission.
Provincial secretaries of Politics and Law were arrested one
after another, the first being Wu Yongwen
from Hebei in Dec. 2012.
Wen Zhao:"Zhou is retired, so you can only punish him
by criminal law to show a ruler’s authority.
The CCP cannot let coup plotters enjoy
the golden retirement years.
Otherwise, everyone will try to challenge the CCP leader."
During Zhou’s tenure as secretary of the Politics and Law
Commission, his many evil deeds hurt the general public.
The people are very angry with him.
Wen Zhao points out that Zhou is not the offspring
of a high ranking official and has no political capital.
Thus, it is much easier to fix him than Bo Xilai.
Xia Xiaoqiang, political commentator, points out that from
Bo’s show in court to his sentence, Bo and Jiang’s faction
utilized unfavorable public sentiment toward the CCP
to affect public opinion.
Bo’s political coup and organ harvesting from Falun Gong
practitioners was shielded by the CCP.
This provided Bo the opportunity to put on his own show
However, if the issue of Falun Gong is not resolved,
the CCP will continue to fight and split within.
According to overseas MinghuiNet, since last year,
ordinary citizens using their handprints
against the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong
occurred a few times in Hebei.
It is understood that Zhou Benshun’s promotions coincided
with his persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
In November 2000, Zhou Benshun was promoted
from secretary of Zhaoyang City in Hunan to director
of Hunan Public Security Bureau and then deputy secretary
of the Central Politics and Law two years later.
In March 2013, he went to Shijiazhuang to report and meet
with all cadres in Hebei.
He emphasized maintaining stability and policy continuity
but did not mention one word about Xi and the new team of leaders.
