Which Road Will the CCP Take After the 18th Congress?

People from all walks of life are expressing their complete
disappointment over the CCP’s unsuccessful political reform
and general secretary Hu Jintao’s speech on the “evil road”
at the Chinese Communist Party(CCP)’s 18th congress.
Afterwards, the CCP’s mouthpiece media immediately
issued articles emphasizing that
the CCP’s system reform could not copy
the western democratic models.
So people of all circles are asking with concern: “which road
will the CCP’s new leadership take after the 18th Congress?”

This year’s 18th Party Congress was held in Beijing under
the circumstance of the bloody inside fighting which arose from the events of Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai.
However, Hu’s opening day speech did not list the contents
of political reform as expected by people of all circles.
Hu also pointed out that, China will “neither go down the old
road nor change its flag”, calling the latter an “evil road”.

On November 11, the People’s Daily issued an article saying:
“The political system reform is related to the CCP’s safety; the party cannot act blindly”.
Xinhua News Agency also reported; again emphasizing that
the CCP “absolutely cannot copy western political models”, echoing Hu’s speech from the 18th Congress.

Shi Da, Political Commentator:
“After watching the 18th Congress, westerners will think that
it’s impossible for the CCP to perform political reform.
The Chinese who thought that the CCP would become better
are completely disappointed;
the overseas Chinese who hope the CCP will gradually
become better—I think they will also be disappointed.”

On November 12, the People’s Daily again issued an article
insisting on the so-called “socialist rule of law”;
emphasizing that “the Party’s cause comes first,
people’s profits come first, and the constitution and laws come first.”
The article also stressed: “adhering to the Party’s leadership;
for people to manage their households;
and administering the country by rule of law”.

Shi Da, Political Commentator:
“It’s impossible for the three ‘first’s to exist together;
among them is ‘the Party’s cause comes first’ and ‘adhering to
the Party’s leadership’—this is what they indeed want to say.
We’ve seen too many conflicts amid the Party and the people,
such as on interest and profits,
or the Party and the people opposing the corrupt nature of
the CCP and its members—we’ve all seen too much.
So the people and the law can’t both be ‘first’;
they are only objects being trampled on by the Party.”

Political commentator Liu Guohua says, there’s no real sense
in political reform if the CCP are still going to emphasize ‘adhering to the Party’s leadership’.”

Liu Guohua: “The one-party rule of the CCP is the
fundamental reason for for all kind of conflicts in mainland China.
Now, they are not only insisting on the Party’s dictatorship,
but also on putting forward political reform—it’s an extremely contradictory statement.”

An article by the People’s Daily said, “It is not suitable for
China’s national conditions, for them to turn to a multi-party,
bicameral ruling system with a separation of powers.”

Shi Da says the 18th Congress definitely showed that
the CCP will never change.

Shi Da: “The Congress stubbornly insisted on being against
the people a bit like the so-called north Korean ‘socialist road’ in the end.
Hoping the CCP will become better, gradually become better,
I think people will be disappointed—disappointed again.
These kinds of experiences are too numerous;

the nature of the CCP—its lies and violence—won’t change,
the 18th Congress is a good sample.”

Also Liu Guohua points out that China will not see any
major changes if the CCP is not dissolved.
At the congress the politburo standing committee members
from the former four sessions all sat on the podium, for the first time in CCP history.
Like Jiang Zemin and Zhou Yongkang, figures behind major
coup plots were brought to the podium to create a false image of Party unity.
However, Liu Guohua thinks Xi Jinping may take some action
after taking power.

Liu Guohua: “I think Xi will take power after the congress
and the CCP will undergo some changes,
despite its insisting on people
adhering to the Partys leadership.
Though the coup of Bo and Zhou didnt succeed,
the damage could have been really huge.
If the coup had succeeded, Xi would have been killed
and Chinese society would have taken a big step backward.”

Famous media reporter, the chief editor of Ice Point magazine,
Li Datong told the Voice of America that, as the CCP’s chief,
Xi’s historical responsibility is different from others.

Xi also knows that the CCP is the fundamental cause behind
China’s social problems—whether to end the CCP is what Xi must decide.
