The Detained Lawyers Are Finally Set Free:
Is It an End to the Horror in Jiansanjiang?

The continuous protests by Chinese lawyer groups and
activists against Jiansanjiang black jail has finally worked.
The three lawyers of Falun Gong practitioners were released.

Other lawyers and citizens detained by local police
have also been set free.
However, people are still wondering if Jiansanjiang’s local
public security bureau of Heilongjiang Province will continue
their criminal acts of arbitrarily arresting citizens illegally.

On March 21, four lawyers visited Jiansanjiang demanding
meetings with their clients, who are all Falun Gong
practitioners imprisoned in the region.

However, they were not only violently beaten by local police,
but also put under administrative arrest on forged charges.

Finally on April 6, the three remaining lawyers, Tang Jitian,
Jiang Tianyong and Wang Cheng, were set free.
They had different injuries on their bodies. The fourth lawyer
Zhang Junjie was released some time previously.

Tang Jitian: ”My chest still hurts. It is a soft tissue injury as
I was hanged and beaten by them with fists. They also kicked
my feet and legs.

Furthermore, they used a full bottle of water to beat my face
and slapped my face as well. One of my teeth was broken.

According to Chinese human rights lawyer Tang Jitian,
detained lawyer Jiang Tianyong was also brutally beaten.
Three of Zhang Junjie’s ribs were broken and
his suit was torn apart from his ordeal.

Tang said: “Jiangsanjiang’s public security officers were
madly clinging to the use of torture.
They hold extreme hatred against lawyers who help
Falun Gong practitioners legally.
Those Jiansanjiang officers were always repeating that,
they could do whatever they wanted as long as the Party
said it wasOK. They have zero awareness of the law.”

Tang Jitian: ”They intimidated me by saying I will be buried
or my kidneys will be harvested alive.
They also said I would be executed by dogs like Kim Jong-un’s
treatment of his uncle-in-law Jang Sung-taek.

At 6am of April 6, Chinese lawyers Chen Jiangang, Wang Yu
and Teng Que, along with other 10 civilians went to
Jiansanjiang to see the lawyers who were just released.

However, they were blocked on the way by over 15
police cars.
Afterwards they were taken to a local police station
for interrogation.
The police told them to leave Jiansanjiang immediately.

Despite that, Wang Yu still believes that day deserves
congratulations, as justice finally beat evilness by all the
efforts consistently made by Chinese lawyers.

Recently two other lawyers Wang Quanzhang and Wang
Shengsheng (female) were badly beaten.
Wang Quanzhang suffered internal injuries because of that.

Cheng Jiawei, secretary-general of the Hong Kong Concern
Group for Chinese Human Rights Lawyers :”When a lawyer
is doing his job, he should not be harassed or suppressed.”

Chen Jiawei commented that, those Chinese lawyers’ acts
deserved respect while the Jiansanjiang authority was
challenging all lawyers by their actions.

Sui Muqing, Guangzhou Human Rights Lawyer:”They abused
political power to arrest lawyers.
They clearly knew that they had violated the law
as law-enforcement officers but they still did so.
Setting up those black jails is a typical organized crime
committed by the government. There is no doubt about that.”

Sui Muqing commented that, Jiangsanjiang’s violence
against civilians using political power is a state crime,
and looks like state terrorism.

Chen Jiangang wrote in his article titled “Break a Path
into Jiansanjiang” that, right after he entered the region,
local officers started to visibly follow him.

He had also been intimidated many times.

Wen Tao, a journalist, also reported that when interviewing
at Jiansanjiang, his room was inspected by the police five
times in only two days.

Sometimes over 10 plainclothes stayed in the lobby
of his hotel.
When the team went to leave the place, all passengers
were inspected for identity cards.
Even when they ate at the railway station, there were
two plain-clothes watching over them.
Wen Tao said he was really horrified by the trip
and even thought of switching to another job.

Sources at Jiansanjiang said over 300 people who went
there to voice support for detained lawyers were arrested
or forcibly ejected.

On April 5, Beijing lawyer Zhang Lei placed a lawsuit against
Jiansanjiang local public security bureau, its Qixing detention
center and those responsible for illegally denying requests of
meeting Wang Cheng.

Jie Mu, who was named as one of “Top Ten Chinese Citizens
on the Internet” in 2008, also commented on Jiansanjiang.
Jie Mu said, the long existing black jail in Jiansanjiang had
arbitrarily arrested and persecuted citizens and lawyers;
All its actions violate rule of the law and basic human rights,
and therefore are against humanity.
Any covering up of those actions, or simply turning a deaf ear
to them, are also crimes.
Everyone’s reaction to the incident , which defines which
role you play, will be recorded by history, he said
